Genesis Sets Itself Apart From The Crowd

In 2015, Genesis branched off from its parent company, Hyundai, to become a separate, luxury car brand. In the few short years that Genesis has been around, it has created a name and reputation for itself. Now, Genesis has set itself even further apart from any competitors with a daring announcement for a greener future. Genesis will have all electric vehicles by 2025

Going All Electric Vehicles

In a recent YouTube video released by Genesis - shortly following the reveal of its first all-electric SUV, the GV60 crossover - the automaker announced its EV only future. By 2025, Genesis promises to have fully transitioned to electric vehicles.

Becoming the first Hyundai-owned company to fully shift to electric vehicles is certainly a large goal, but those at Genesis seem prepared for the commitment. The global head of Genesis, Jay Chang, declared in the video that Genesis will "take audacious steps to lead the age of electrification into the sustainable future."

In regards to the electric future of Genesis, Chang hopes the transition will "continue to design a new dimension of customer experience and build an authentic relationship with our customers."

Luc Donckerwolke, the chief creative officer at Genesis, also appeared in the video. Donckerwolke expressed his belief that the "new electric lineup" would "increase our interface with our customers."

"We aim to interact with all their senses. Our new architecture will integrate audacious technologies and breathtaking designs while providing sincere detail-oriented experiences. Warm and exquisite care will be our differentiator." Donckerwolke claimed, asserting that Genesis will set itself apart from any rivals or competitors in this new age.

The Sustainable Future Of All Electric Vehicles

So how exactly will Genesis accomplish this feat? In the released video, Genesis revealed its timeline for the brand's sustainable future.

As stated previously, Genesis plans to have completely transitioned to electric vehicles by 2025- completely phasing out internal combustion cars. In the next step of the plan, Genesis makes the lofty goal to become fully zero-emission by 2030. And finally, by 2035, Genesis aims to become carbon neutral.

To achieve goals as big as these, Genesis will have to undergo a lot of changes in the upcoming years, including reorganizing its entire value chain from raw materials and auto parts to the operation of the work sites.

Electric is not the only future in store for Genesis, though. They also announced a "dual electrification" strategy, in which the automaker claims that "Genesis will put an effort on developing pure electric technologies such as new fuel cell systems with higher power output, and electric systems that help improve efficiency. In addition, Genesis will devote itself to building next-generation technology that draws better performance and efficiency from lithium-ion batteries."

What This Future Looks Like

If you're more accustomed to old-fashioned, gas-engine vehicles, don't be scared… yet. Non-electric Genesis models will remain in production for a few years after 2025, so there will still be some gas-engine vehicles available for purchase. However, the production of electric models will increase greatly in the upcoming years: the brand aims to have a range of eight electric-car models by 2030, with the goal to accomplish sales of 400,000 units per year. Genesis also plans to attain zero-emissions by then. So, we can expect to see gas-engine cars stop production by 2030.

The GV60 and More Future Genesis All Electric Vehicles

Though the time for Genesis' full electric lineup is still quite far away, the GV60 is expected to release this spring. "Created for those with a vision of the future, being now" according to the automaker, the GV60 is the brand's first all-electric SUV, which combines the beloved features of previous Genesis models- the elegant and sleek design, comfortable and spacious interior, and impressive technology- with the new, wonderful features of EVs.

While no concrete details were released about the other future EV models of Genesis, Donckerwolke spoke of groundbreaking technologies, stunning designs, as well as a focus on experience and comfort. According to Donckerwolke, Genesis "will design original and progressive experiences."

Check out some of the potential elements mentioned in the YouTube video, which might be present in the future of Genesis:

  • "Stage doors"

  • Swiveling seats

  • Mood lightning

  • A new heat system, "inspired by the Korean Ondol" (underfloor heating)

Although nothing is certain, we can expect Genesis to produce breathtaking models and differentiate itself from rivals in the future.
