It is known for its great balance between comfort and agility with a rewarding and fun drive. The G70 is family-friendly with 5 seats and an updated look filling all of your needs. If you're on the fence about whether or not the Genesis G70 is the right sedan for you, it's important to explore the pros and cons of owning one. There are many pros and cons of the Genesis G70, that we discuss below.

2025 Genesis G70 Updates

There are just a few updates for the 2025 Genesis G70. The main update is a new option for an exterior color. The new color option is a shade called Burleigh Blue Matte. Other than this, there aren't many brand new features for the 2025 model of the G70. It is important to know that the engine lineup and features remain the same from 2024, and with that being said, it also keeps the 2.5 liter turbocharged four-cylinder base engine. Other than that, the Genesis G70 actually decreases in price, compared to the 2024 version.

Pros Of The Genesis G70

There are many pros of the Genesis G70, including the quick acceleration and great warranty coverage. With the V6 engine, the acceleration on the Genesis G70 is very quick, keeping up with several sports cars. The value of the G70 is high compared to European competitors as well. The premium build and upscale design features in the cabin are another one of the stand-out pros of the Genesis G70. We will go through the rest of the pros of the Genesis G70, below.

Powerful Engine Options

One of the first pros of the Genesis G70, and arguably the most notable, is the powerful engine under the hood. The base engine is 2.5 liter turbo I4 with 300 hp on rear wheel drive models. This engine is smooth and packs a punch, which is a major improvement over the old 2.0 liter engines. For the upgraded engine option it is 3.3 liter twin turbo V6 engine. This one has 365 hp and is paired with adaptive dampers and a few other sportier features.

Fair Prices

The price of the Genesis G70 is another aspect some would consider a pro. Compared to other luxury German automakers, it undercuts their pricing by up to $10,000 with similar features. Below is the starting MSRP:

-The 2.5T starts at about $42,500

-The 2.5 T All-wheel-drive starts at about $44,600

- The 3.3T is about $50,950

-The 3.3T All wheel drive is about $53,050

Quick Acceleration

As mentioned before, the acceleration speed is one of the big pros of the Genesis G70, specifically for 2025. The base 2.5 turbo engine and 0-60 MPH in 5.7- 5.9 seconds. This is extremely competitive for any entry-level luxury sedan. The upgraded 3.3 liter twin turbo goes from 0-60 MPH in 4.5 to 4.9 seconds. This speed outpaces many other German rivals.

Excellent Warranty

One of the last pros of the Genesis G70 that we will mention is the excellent warranty. The limited Genesis warranty option includes 5 years/60,000 miles. The powertrain warranty is 10 years/ 100,000 miles, which is extremely generous compared to other luxury makes like the Jaguar, which only offers 5 years/60,000 miles. The complementary maintenance is 3 years/36,000 miles. Included with the Genesis G70 is the valet service, which can be grouped with the warranties. When you go take in your G70 for maintenance you get picked up and dropped off in a loaner vehicle during your scheduled service.

Cons Of The Genesis G70

There are a few cons of the Genesis G70 that are worth mentioning. Some Genesis owners dislike the tight rear seats and the tight trunk space. These features could be off putting for some families. Another con may be the fact that there is no hybrid option for the G70. Below we will further discuss some of the main cons of the Genesis G70 for the 2025 model.

Cramped Back Seats

One of the cons of the Genesis G70 is the limited space in the back seats and the trunk. In the back seat, the leg room is about 34.8 inches, which happens to be less than most of the luxury model's competitors. There is limited space for your feet under the front seats, which becomes worse if there are adults in the back seat. It is also said to be harder to get into and out of the back doors because of the positioning of the rear seats and pillars.

Lackluster Fuel Economy

Another con of the 2025 Genesis G70 is the less than amazing fuel economy. The fuel economy score is 6.0-6.5 out of 10, according to MOTORTREND. Compared to the Jaguar, which gets about 20-30 MPG, it is slightly below average. The fuel economy for the 4 different engine options are listed below:

  • The 2.5T rear wheel drive gets 21 MPG in the city and 29 MPG on the highway.

  • The 2.5T all wheel drive gets 20 MPG in the city and 28 MPG on the highway.

  • The 3.3T rear wheel drive gets 17 MPG in the city and 25 MPG on the highway.

  • The 3.3T all wheel drive gets 17 MPG in the city and 23 MPG on the highway.

No Hybrid Option

The last con of the 2025 Genesis G70 worth mentioning is the fact that there is no hybrid option. The Genesis G70 only comes in gasoline engines with no electric or hybrid options which may turn off some customers. If you're looking for a more environmentally conscious vehicle the G70 may not be the best option. Right now, Genesis is focusing on electric engines for only larger models like the G80. Unfortunately, an electric version of the G70 is unlikely without a full redesign.

Is the Genesis G70 Worth It?

You might be asking if the Genesis G70 is worth it? We say yes! The 2025 Genesis G70 has a strong performance and base trim offerings. The back seats and the fuel efficiency are the most notable drawbacks for the G70, but the speed and the luxury feel make the decision a lot easier. Overall the Genesis G70 has a great value and premium build, keeping the luxury feel, making it worth the tight trunk space.
